Beijing, April 23, 2007 – Grace Construction Products announced that its Monokote(R) fireproofing product has been selected for the Phase III construction of the China World Trade Center (CWTC).
Monokote was chosen for its superior quality, high field application efficiency, quick set finish property, and excellent application track record in projects such as Beijing’s LG Towers, Tapei’s 101 Finance Center and Hong Kong’s 118-storey Union Square. About 130,000 bags of Monokote MK-6/HY product will be applied on the structural steel beams of the CWTC, covering an approximate area of 400,000 square meters.
This announcement was made at a press briefing officiated by Mr. Jim Healy, President of Grace China Ltd., Mr. Chen Lu Ru, Vice President of China Steel Construction Society, Zhang Qing Feng of Construction Ministry, Technology Development Center and Dr. Xu Yong Mo, Vice Chairman of China Building Materials Industrial Association.
Located right in the heart of the central business district, at the junction of the East Third Ring Road and Jiang Guo Men Wai Avenue, CWTC Phase III will be the tallest building in Beijing at 330 meters when it is completed in 2008. The Phase III building is a 74-storey steel and concrete structure, designed to house commercial and office space, a five-star hotel, shopping, dining and recreation facilities.
Commenting on the performance of Monokote MK-6/HY, Mr. Qi Yong Shun, President of Beijing Yong Shun Cheng Engineering Co., the contractor spray-applying the fireproofing, said, “We started spray application of Monokote in March this year. We are able to reliably and consistently obtain very good yield from the product, which is very helpful in speeding up the construction schedule, an important consideration for a project of this size and scale.”
Mr. Steven Loh, General Manager of Fire Protection and Firestopping Products, Asia Pacific, added, “We have an approved applicator scheme to train and support Grace application contractors, such as Beijing Yong Shun Cheng, to assure the performance of Monokote on site. Apart from the reliability and quality of Monokote, its in-place performance is another reason why MK-6/HY is the world’s most widely used fireproofing material.”
