Grace’s U.S.-based headquarters launched the “Grace CommunityWorks” volunteer outreach program at the end of 2005 – aimed at encouraging volunteer participation and recognizing employees who so generously give-up their time, knowledge and energy to the community. As part of that effort, Grace China maintains community involvement at the core of its corporate culture, while actively adapting it to China’s local culture.
Grace China focuses its community service efforts on educating children and youth, especially since education is one of the key issues in China’s sustainable development, particularly for underprivileged groups. For example, Grace China sponsored a university scholarship program, actively supported a community-volunteering program, made donations to a community education facility and championed an environmental education program.
Grace’s top management team strongly supports our community outreach programs. Fred Festa, Grace’s global CEO, talked about the importance of volunteering by sharing his own community engagement experiences: “Choosing to volunteer is a personal decision, but it can be a very rewarding experience.”
Jim Healy, President of Grace China, often shared his ideas on how to enhance the impact of community projects and encouraged his team to think more creatively. He said, “People and Teamwork have been Grace values throughout our 150 years of history globally. Reaching out to a community is not only about donating money; it is also about caring and being devoted to its cause.” |
